Obituary for Kenneth James Nixon

Kenneth James Nixon, 75 of Waco GA, passed away at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta early Wednesday morning, March 28, 2018, from pancreatic cancer.
Born in Carrollton, Georgia on April 19, 1942, he was a graduate of Mt. Zion High School and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a devoted Christian, attended Union United Methodist Church in Waco for over 25 years and was a faithful member of the church choir.
Mr. Nixon had an outgoing personality and seldom met a stranger. He was an avid golfer who regularly played 27-36 holes a day during his retirement from Firestone.
He leaves a legacy as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. But his most enduring legacy is that of a dedicated husband and a tireless caregiver to his beloved wife Clarice “Kitty” Nixon during her 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Through his care for his wife, Mr. Nixon inspired many with his complete devotion and remarkable care for her.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Edward Nixon and Edna Lee Nixon Lyons, brothers, Doyle Nixon and Sidney Nixon and sister-in- law, Hildred Nixon.
He is survived by his daughter Deanna Britt (Ronnie), son Jamie Nixon, stepson Roy Hearn (Teressa); stepdaughters, April Butler (Herb) and Orlando Driver (Richard); grandchildren, Ronnie Britt Jr., Amber Britt, Ashley Britt, Lindy Hearn, Justin Hearn, Kenzie Butler and Kass Butler; a sister, Linda Allen (Jay); brothers, Donald Nixon (Gabriele), Jerrell Nixon (Sharon), Rodney Nixon and Tony Nixon (Peggy Jean); sisters- in- law, Wanda Nixon and Ernie Nixon and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Nixon’s body will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 Hightower Funeral Home, Bremen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 2 PM at Union United Methodist Church in Waco with Reverend Herb Butler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union United Methodist Church and/or Union Campground, 186 Union Road, Waco, GA 30182.
