Obituary for Mae Brown Smith Maddox

Mae Maddox, age 104 of Carrollton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. She was born May 30, 1914, in Polk County, Georgia, daughter of the late James J. Brown and late Willar Belle Brown.

Mae retired from Sewell Manufacturing Company in Bremen after 50 years of service. She then worked alongside her brother, Edd Brown, at B&B Factory Outlet as the seamstress and alterations specialist. Mrs. Maddox was a member of Bremen First Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Mae lived a very full and active life and loved her family and friends. The Bible teaches to not worry about tomorrow because tomorrow will take care of itself. She truly lived this motto, and as the saying goes, she “bloomed where she was planted”. She was an inspiration to everyone around her, and she was loved by many.

In addition to her parents, Mae is preceded in death by her two loving husbands, Horace Smith and Cary Maddox; daughter, Yvonne; sisters, Ethel Brown Prater (Henry), Evelyn Brown Bridges (Luke), Lillian Brown Jones (J.T.), Mildred Brown; brothers, James J. Brown Jr. (Marjorie), Billy Noble Brown (Carolyn), Kenneth M. Brown (Roberta), and John W. Brown (Louise).

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Aline Entrekin and Mrs. Marcelle Tarpley; one brother, Edd Brown; one stepson, Bill Maddox (Wanda); one stepdaughter, Barbara Britt (Jerry); eleven step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

A celebration of life will be Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Herman Parker officiating. Interment will follow at the Bremen City Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Brown, David Tarpley, Al Bridges, Mike Brown, Noble Brown, Russell Brown, John Brown, and Bill Maddox. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice in support of children or the elderly.
