Obituary for Joseph D. "Buck" McCain

Joseph D. “Buck” McCain of Bremen passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Bremen, May 8, 1930, son of the late Chester Delone McCain and Myrtie Swann McCain. Mr. McCain was retired from Sewell Manufacturing Company where he was a presser. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bremen. Mr. McCain was inducted in the U. S. Army, 5th Calvary Division in 1951 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1956. Mr. McCain came home from service in 1953 but was in the reserves for an additional time. In 1960, he was certified by the Department of Defense, Civil Defense Division in a Special Course of Basic Rescue, in 1963, a Special Course of Basic Auxiliary Police and in 1966, a Special Course of Basic Rescue Instructor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Capes and Doris Miller and three brothers, Donald McCain, Delone McCain and Shine McCain.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Chance McCain of Bremen; two children, Anthony “Tony” and Barbara McCain, Anderson, SC, Rebecca and Mark Reeves of Whitesburg; a granddaughter, Jessica Leigh McCain of Athens; a sister, Delphia Young of Bremen and a brother, Daniel and Ann McCain of Bremen.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

Services will be Friday, December 14 at 2:00 PM from the chapel, Hightower Funeral Home with Dr. Stanley McCain and Dr. J. Howard Mills officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Scott Weatherly, Jamie Weatherly, Bobby Bonner, Randy Jackson, Von Haynes, Hiram Hurtt, Tommy Hosey, Brian Horton and Rodney Smith. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military honors furnished by the Army.
